Oakland's LGBTQ+ District
Oakland is home to a large and vibrant LGBTQ Community.
While it is true that most of our amazing queer bars and clubs are scattered throughout Oakland, particularly downtown with Oakland's other nightlife in the entertainment districts, the Lakeshore LGBTQ cultural district is the first Oakland city designated LGBTQ district.
Oakland's LGBTQ District is unique for many reasons. It has historically been a go-to, day-time and family-friendly destination neighborhood for the LGBTQ community for decades. It has a unique mix of LGBTQ residents, businesses, and LGBTQ specific non-profit services to include the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center, the Town LGBTQ Youth Club, and the Queer Arts Center.
It is home to the historic Grand Lake Theatre and
numerous businesses to include the popular Saturday farmers market, restaurants and coffee shops, grocery markets, retail stores, places to get a drink, or enjoy some self-care.
Oakland's Lakeshore LGBTQ District committee, in partnership with the Lakeshore Business Improvement District and the Grand Ave Business Improvement Association, is happy to share that our efforts to promote and sustain a vibrant, safe, inclusive district is paying off. With over 300 businesses in the Lakeshore & Grand Ave neighborhood and more moving in, the Oakland LGBTQ district is definitely one of Oakland's most visibly vibrant and inclusive neighborhoods.
